Although UTVs already have headlights, driving at night with an extra led light bar can further improve your safety. When faced with uneven terrain, the vehicle’s own lights may not be enough. But after installing a led light bar, you can clearly see the road ahead, how can it not be a good choice?
The installation of Led light bar is also not complicated and can be done with simple tools. However, many car owners don’t know how to install led light bar on UTV, here is a guide to install led light bar on UTV:
Deactivate the power source
The battery provides power to the UTV, so in order to avoid short circuits in the connected power source, first disconnect the energy from the battery. (Note: Disconnect the negative terminal first, then the positive terminal.) This is also to prevent wasting energy during installation.
Choose a suitable installation location
The second step is that you need to choose a suitable location on the UTV for installation. There are many mounting locations that can be mounted to the top or to the front bumper. We almost mount led light bar to the front bumper because the light bar illuminates the area closer to the owner. And it is able to illuminate the driving path ahead.
Before installation, please make sure that there is no obstacle around the installation location that can block the light irradiation. Purchase the light bar seller will be matched with a good mounting bracket, according to your own needs to choose the side bracket or the bottom bracket. Please don’t tighten the bolts completely when installing, because the angle of the light needs to be adjusted later.
Find a power source and secure it
Your UTV light bar needs power to work, and the required voltage is usually 12 volts. Fortunately, you can easily get power from your UTV. The most common and easiest way to do this is to cut the two wires that power your existing headlights and connect a new light bar.
The light bar connection to the power source must be secured. Isolate the wires from other metal fittings. That’s why you need to use a better quality wiring harness. A bad quality wiring harness does not fully guarantee that the wires can be fixed firmly. If we don’t secure it properly, it will short out when it rubs against other metals. It is enough to lay the wires according to the existing wiring rules in the UTV.
Appropriate use of relays
A relay is an electromechanical device that can control the opening and closing of a large circuit by means of a small current. In addition to controlling the on-off of electrical loads, the main advantage of relays is energy saving. It can ensure that the light bar does not consume too much battery energy, thus extending the life of the battery and equipment. By installing the relay, the voltage from the battery to the fixture will remain stable, thus reducing the heat generated by the resistor. So the installation of the relay is necessary, but its installation will not affect the installation of the control switch.
Connecting the battery
After doing the previous steps you can reconnect the battery. After connecting the positive terminal, connect the negative terminal. This will allow you to proceed to the final step.
Test
After all the installation work is ready, you can turn on the switch to see if the light bar can be lighted. If it lights up, adjust the angle of illumination of the light. Don’t forget to screw the bracket bolts of the light and the bolts of the mounting position completely tight.
